Thankful Thursday

In an effort to keep my thinking more positive, I bring you Thankful Thursdays.

I am thankful for my new friend, The Librarianette. She has taken over my position at my old campus and I am getting to mentor her and work as her library assistant for a few months. It's a win-win situation for me: I get to do work I love, but it's part time and I'm still a sub, which means I can take off to the beach for a week or to my sister's wedding with no problem. Being a school librarian can be lonely at times. You're the only one on your campus who really understands what you do. You have colleagues at other campuses, but phone and e-mail and monthly meetings just aren't the same. It's so much fun to work alongside another librarian. And I am invested in this library and the students, so it's fulfilling to be there. I'm also getting closure on projects that I started (or wanted to start!) and never got around to due to the multi-tasking nature of the job. It's very satisfying.

In addition to all the job "stuff," I really like The Librarianette as a person. We have similar dispositions, senses of humor and interests. She is kind and thoughtful and really excited about being a librarian. We're in process of becoming friends as well as colleagues. I'm very thankful for that.
